„The rel­ev­ance of care work for gender equal­ity” – Side event at the 66th ses­sion of the Com­mis­sion on the Status of Wo­men

A high-level side event on the importance of care work for gender equality will take place on 16 March 2022. Register now!
 

On behalf of the Global Alliance for Care, the Governments of Mexico and Germany, with co-sponsorship by UN-Women, International Labour Organization (ILO), and the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), will host a side event for the sixty-sixth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW66). The side event will take place on 16 March, from 4:30pm-5:45pm CET (11:30am - 12:45pm EST).

This year’s priority theme is set on achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls in the context of climate change, environmental and disaster risk reduction policies and programmes.

The high-level event seeks to discussthe need to incorporate the care agenda in national and international, social, labor, environmental, and economic policies to bring about transformative change for gender equality and a sustainable future for all. The discussion will illustrate the particular relevance of sustainable care systems to successfully tackle climate change and build resilient societies, thus providing a unique opportunity to mobilize multistakeholder engagement and promote investment at scale for care systems and care systems solutions.

The Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Svenja Schulze, will give the keynote speech at the side-event.

Germany is a member of the global initiative Global Alliance for Care (GAC) founded by Mexico, INMUJERES and UN Women in the context of the Generation Equality Forum since 2021. The GAC is the first international multi-stakeholder partnership to advance the subject of care and care work.
